Internship Goal

To Provide interns with practical experience in human services.

The Internship Process

All selected candidates will receive a thorough interview to include an outline of responsibilities and expectations of our interns. We have had interns from many different educational backgrounds: HDFS, Psychology, Rehab, Education, among many more. Following the interview, The Arc will provide a realistic site preview at the location of the internship. It will be the responsibility of the candidate to call the Human Resource Department after this preview and communicate their interest in the program. The Arc then begins the process of approving the candidates, which will include background reference checks. The time in this process can vary. Upon approval the candidate will be contacted immediately. Candidates that are not accepted will be notified by mail.

Internship Description

The Arc's Internship Program consists of a balance of direct care service to the individuals in a community home arrangement and administrative support to management personnel. This balance is derived from a split assignment as follows:

1. 40 hours a week = 19 hours direct service (paid) and 21 hours administrative support (unpaid).
2. Specific job duties and essential functions are discussed during the interview process and are based upon program specific needs.
3. The Arc operates many sites in Centre County and will assign interns to the location that best services the needs of the organization.

Requirements

1. Must be 18 years or older.
2. Must possess a high school diploma. Additional experience or training specific to the field of human services is preffered.
3. Must possess a valid driver's license or be willing to obtain if accepted into the Intern Program.
4. Hours needed to work will be discussed during the interview process due to meeting the program needs.
5. Abide by all guidelines of The Arc and the sponsor college or university's internship program.
